Shops & Shopping
Cornish PastiesLooe has an excellent selection of Cornish Pasty shops, some are traditional bakeries which have long made and sold Cornish pasties and there also some specialist Pasty Shops. Remember to get your pasties in the morning as they may well be sold out if you leave it till later!SupermarketsThere are a wide range of traditional shops in Looe (Bakers, butchers, greengrocers etc) and two small supermarkets, one of which used to be Somerfield, but both now are the Co-operative, both in Fore Street, one adjoining the quayside car park and the other about 100m further into the shopping area. Both supermarkets sell some of the same lines, but the one near the car park also sells newspapers, magazines, etc whilst the one further along Fore Street seems to sell more food and grocery lines. For many years there have been rumours and even proposals to build a large supermarket in Looe, Tesco has seemed to be the most likely company, possibly across the bridge in the huge car park there, but this has always been a very controversial matter and, so far, has not come to fruition. At the present time the nearest large supermarket is Morrisons on the south-east edge of Liskeard, just off the A38 and about 8 miles from Looe. On the outskirts of Saltash there is a large (recently extended) Waitrose store (about 17 miles) and also a LIDL store. In Bodmin (about 21 miles) there is Sainsburys, Asda and Morrisons. |
